Fashion porn with Henrik Purienne

The influx of American Apparel-style, natural homemade shoots in fashion circles has led to a rise in ‘fashion porn’ photographers, virtual ‘Testinos’ of the bedroom, armed with a camera pre and post sex, it is like cataloging your success, yet deeming it art. The Cape Town-based photographer Henrik Purienne is one of the leading ‘fashion porn’ photographers around and his day job literally involves taking shots of beautiful girls in various stages of undress.

Purienne’s work is oozing sensuality and provocativeness, and his style nods heavily to the teen spirit of the bright, colourful and swinging 70s. But even with work that borders on the top shelf, he keeps impeccable elegance in his photos with his models. Colour, composition and model combinations compliment each other perfectly, in a similar vein to Terry Richardson and Marc Van Dalen.

He started out by just documenting his girlfriends hanging out, and today he is also the founder of Mirage Magazine fashion magazine, which in truly Purienne fashion, has a bold and original claim – Swimwear & Jetset Hedonism.
